Kerbango and ApplianceWare Deliver Digital Music Library

Indian Wells, California, DEMO 2000, February 7, 2000. ApplianceWare Inc. (formerly REALM Information Technologies), provider of affordable, easy-to-use server appliance software solutions and Kerbango Inc., a startup building the world's first, standalone Internet radio, today announced a strategic alliance that will marry ApplianceWare's Network-Attached Storage (NAS) appliances with Kerbango's forthcoming Internet radio. When combined, these two products will enable playback of streaming music from the Internet as well as locally stored digital music. Today's announcement was made as Kerbango unveiled its Internet radio at the DEMO 2000 conference, an annual forum showcasing the year's most exciting new products and technologies.

Kerbango expects to begin shipping its Internet radio this summer. This AM/FM/Internet radio will use the existing Internet connection in the home or office to play back streaming audio files on the appliance's integrated speakers. When combined with an ApplianceWare-based NAS device, the Kerbango radio will play back locally stored MP3 music files.

ApplianceWare is an intelligent server appliance software layer that runs on top of the Linux operating system. ApplianceWare allows OEMs to build and offer best-in-class, reliable, high performance server appliances at competitive consumer and small business price points.

"ApplianceWare NAS devices expand the capabilities of our Internet radio, giving more options and greater value to customers, especially when their Internet connection is down," said Jim Gable, president of Kerbango Inc. "We view the ApplianceWare NAS devices as a great accessory for the Kerbango radio."

"Kerbango's streaming audio technology is the perfect complement to our ApplianceWare NAS devices," said ApplianceWare President and CEO Stacy Kenworthy. "While NAS products have traditionally been used for backup, shared data storage and other business applications, Kerbango is creating new uses for the product, pushing it into the consumer arena."

The agreement between ApplianceWare and Kerbango includes joint marketing and development efforts. Customers will also benefit from the combined resources of both companies, including customer service and technical support.
