ApplianceWare was founded in 1996 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Does ApplianceWare
have any plans for an Initial Public Offering (IPO)?
Not at this time. The company is focused first and foremost on developing
and providing the best Network Attached Storage (NAS) software solutions
for the market. As the company continues to be successful in this endeavor,
it will take into consideration the possibility of an IPO or other strategic
moves to help sustain growth and capture additional market share.
How is ApplianceWare
funded?
Wit SoundView, Inc led the first major round of funding. This round of
financing provided $3 million in the first quarter of 2000. An additional
$13 million was raised in the second quarter of 2000 led by Oppenheimer
Funds. Other significant investors include Scudder Kemper Investments
and Sidus Investment Management.
Why is ApplianceWare
focused on the Network Attached Storage (NAS) industry?
Demands for data storage continue to grow rapidly as companies increasingly
generate vast amounts of digital information. These companies have turned
to NAS as the solution to their needs. NAS is a much more cost effective
and practical solution compared to traditional data storage methods. In
2000, the NAS market generated $1.2 billion and is projected to double
annually generating $12 billion in 2005. As a result of continued data
storage needs and the tremendous growth of the NAS industry, ApplianceWare
is focused on delivering the best NAS software solutions.
Who are ApplianceWare's
primary competitors in the NAS software sector?
ApplianceWare is focused on providing software solutions for OEMs, targeting
the midrange, workgroup-oriented NAS market. Since we are focused exclusively
on the software component of storage solutions, our only competitor is
Microsoft® Windows Server Applications Kit (SAK). Compared to Microsoft's
SAK, ApplianceWare's NAS software consistently rates higher in performance
and reliability. As a result, ApplianceWare is featured on more higher-end
NAS systems than Microsoft.
How does ApplianceWare
distinguish itself from its competitors?
ApplianceWare's products offer the best performance, reliability, and
functionality in the NAS software market at the most competitive prices.
This is the result of heavy data storage expertise, years of advanced
NAS and Linux programming and extremely efficient development processes
and procedures.
Has ApplianceWare
ever considered entering the hardware side of NAS storage solutions?
ApplianceWare's strength lies in NAS software development and we are extremely
productive at developing new NAS related technologies. We have six years
in research, development and sales in the software arena, and we have
strong relationships with the OEM community because we do not compete
with them by providing hardware. ApplianceWare is committed to NAS software
development and does not plan on competing in the hardware market.
What product does
ApplianceWare Sell?
ApplianceWare markets and sells several different NAS software products
and technologies including ApplianceWare's recent introduction of AW 3.3.
